Why do I always choose comfort over what I should be doing?
When does this show up for you? Pick the moment that feels most familiar.
01
Avoiding difficult subjects
Why do I only study what's easy?
This topic is making my head hurt.
So I skip it and study the chapter I already understand.
It feels productive.
It feels safe.
But I know this difficult topic is important.
I keep telling myself I'll come back to it later.
Yet later never comes.
Now the exam is close and I'm avoiding what I know will hurt.
Maybe discomfort is where I actually need to be.
02
Taking just one more break
Why does one break turn into hours?
I've been studying for thirty minutes.
My mind feels tired so I take a break.
A quick one.
But then I check my phone.
And scroll a bit more.
The break feels so much easier than studying.
I tell myself I deserve this rest.
But rest doesn't make me feel better.
It makes me feel more guilty.
Maybe the discomfort of continuing is better than the shame of wasting time.
03
Postponing revision because it feels uncomfortable
Why can't I just start revising?
Revision is boring.
It's repetitive.
My mind wanders the moment I open my notes.
So I avoid it and do something new instead.
Something that doesn't feel like a chore.
But new topics alone won't help me for the exam.
I need revision.
I've been avoiding it for weeks.
Maybe the discomfort I'm resisting now is the only thing that will actually help me later.
